F.A.Q.

I would like to serve with my small group or family. How do we sign up as a group?
Please sign up each individual in your small group or family (including children), and we will make sure to group you together during registration on the day of the event. On the day of the event, please make sure you have every member of your group present before checking in.

What should I wear to the event?
Please wear work clothes and sensible close-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty or torn. And don’t forget to bring sunscreen!

Is lunch provided for volunteers?
There will be some breakfast snacks available in the morning, but we are not providing lunch. We encourage you to bring lunch money, so you can eat out with your group after the project. If you would like, you can bring a snack for yourself. Water will be available at the school.

Should I bring my own tools and equipment?
If you have tools or other supplies such as rakes, garbage bags, work gloves, paintbrushes, gardening supplies, etc. please feel free to bring them in case they are needed at your site. However, each school site should be stocked with tools and supplies.

Is there a cost to participate in the DC Schools Project?
Registration is free of charge. Each participant will receive a complementary t-shirt on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Can I choose the school I want to serve?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of volunteers, we are unable to allow participants to choose the school they would like to serve.

Where will we meet the day of the event?
On Saturday, August 20th, all participants will meet promptly at 7:00AM at the American University Nebraska Avenue Parking Lot (at 3401 Nebraska Ave. NW, Washington DC 20016). Look for the DC Schools Project Signs to help direct you. Please do not be late, as it affects the time we are granted to serve at the schools.

Can I participate if I don’t have a car?
If you are unable to drive, you will need to carpool with someone, because Metrorail will not be in service that early on a Saturday.
